Every privately owned public space in New York City.
What a POPS is

Since 1961, developers have gotten bonus floor area — extra rentable stories — in exchange for building plazas, arcades, and atriums that must stay open to the public. There are about 390 of them, mostly in Manhattan.

Reading the data

Covered / Outdoor / Mixed is inferred from each space's zoning type (arcades and galleria are covered; plazas are outdoor). Hours and amenities shown are what the owner is legally required to provide — seating, bike parking, open hours — not a review of how pleasant it is. For photos and the gossip, hit the Google button on any space.

Data: NYC Dept. of City Planning. Space pages link to APOPS, the MAS/Kayden project documenting each space with photos and history.
